Ron's Obituary

Ronald Stephen Momany of Benton Harbor and St. Joseph, Michigan, died peacefully at Caretel Inns in St. Joseph, December 11, 2022.
Ron was born in Benton Harbor, MI, on June 15, 1937. He was a graduate from Benton Harbor High School in 1955 and earned an Associate of Arts degree from Lake Michigan College.

Ron worked in finance most of his adult life. He was employed by the former F & M Bank in several capacities, including Branch Manager and for the City of Benton Harbor. He served as the Twin Cities Airport Manager for a short time before joining the administrative leadership of the City of St. Joseph. At the City of St. Joseph, Ron held several positions including, the Community Development Coordinator, the Finance Director/Treasurer, and the City Clerk. He retired in 1997 as the City Clerk.

Ron served in the United States Navy and was a long-time member of the Peace Temple United Methodist Church. In more recent years, he was a member of the Stevensville United Methodist Church.

Ron was known as a genuinely kind man. He was patient, thoughtful, and respectful of others and was, in turn, loved and respected by many. For several years he served, along with Carol, in a tutoring program for children who attended the Benton Harbor Area Schools.

Ron loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing. He appreciated simple traditions and homespun wisdom, often writing about such things and logging his reflections in several personal journals.

Above all, Ron found joy in his lifelong friendships and in his family relationships. He liked to know what was happening in the lives of others and often shared a word of advice when necessary.
Ron is survived by his wife, Carol (Miller) Momany of St. Joseph; sons, Tim (Elizabeth) Momany of Amana, IA and Chris (Elizabeth) Momany of Dowagiac, MI; grandchildren, Alex (Stephanie) Momany, Allison (Tyler) Momany Stockman, Christopher Momany, Megan Cushman, Hannah (Phil) Garland, and Paige Cushman; great-grandchildren, Theo Stockman and Otto Stockman; and many nieces and nephews.
A Service of Death and Resurrection will be held for Ron at the Stevensville United Methodist Church, 5506 Ridge Rd, Stevensville, MI, Thursday, December 15, 11:00 am. The Rev. Elise Low Edwardson will lead the worship celebration, with military rites following provided by North Berrien Military Rites Team. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10:00-11:00 am on Thursday, December 15. Memorials may be given in Ron’s memory to: the Stevensville United Methodist Church or the Dowagiac: First United Methodist Church.
