Roger's Obituary
Roger Dinges, 74, of Baroda, MI passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Spectrum Health Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph, with his family at his side. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home – 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI. A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Humane Society.
Roger was the last of six children born to Emanuel and Thelma (Sarver) Dinges – and the only child born in a hospital (on January 6, 1947 at Memorial Hospital in St. Joseph, MI.) He attended Berrien Springs schools.
Roger married Carol Ann Kugel in October 1965, and soon moved to the home where they raised their three sons. There they enjoyed their many pets (especially their St. Bernard’s), gardening, home renovations, and swimming in their backyard pool. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinal’s and NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt, traveling to races in Michigan and Tennessee and after Earnhardt’s death to the museum in North Carolina.
Over the years he worked at Clark Equipment in Buchanan until they closed. Roger then enjoyed road construction work with George Miller and Sons Inc. He also worked for the Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant, and then retired in 2011 from the Southeast Berrien County Landfill. Roger made many friends along the way.
Roger is survived by his wife of 56 years Carol; sons Darrell of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, Patrick (Jill) of St. Joseph, and Brandon of Baroda; granddaughters India Dinges and Madisen Wimmer; and siblings Catherine Newstrom, Ralph (Devona) Dinges, Shirley Gerlach, and Roland Dinges. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert, sister-in-laws Maybelle Dinges and Betty Dinges, and brother-in-laws Don Gerlach and Dell Newstrom.
