Robert's Obituary
Robert was born on July 6, 1929, the son of Elmer & Florence Kerns, Sr. On June 10, 1950 he married Lillian Weidenhoft. Bob loved mushroom hunting, camping, deer hunting and especially fishing, both here in Michigan and in Florida during the winters. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp having served during the Korean War. Bob volunteered with New Buffalo City as an officer and ambulance driver for eighteen years and recently received a lifetime service award from New Buffalo City. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #169 and an active member of Papasan-Mamasan Korea Veterans Association
Survivors include his daughter, Becky (Jeff) Hinshaw of Michigan City, IN; son, Robert (Cindy) Kerns, Jr of Stevensville, MI; grandchildren, Ryan (Chrissy) Williams, Shawnna (Paul) Wesolowski, Josh (Joy) Kerns, Kristen (Jeff) Kerns, Christopher (Tracey) Hinshaw and Nicole Hinshaw; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Jack and John Williams, Jayda and Jordan Kerns, Marcin and Josey Kerns, Chase Hinshaw, Caselle Pavlack, Michael, Brian and Dan Wesolowski.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lillian Kerns and siblings, Doris, Polly, Elmer Jr (Butch), William, Margaret, and Vivian
A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Lakeside United Methodist Church, 14970 Lakeside Rd., Lakeside, MI with Pastor Brenda Ludwig officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior the service from 9-11 am also at the church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Buffalo with full military honors rendered by the New Buffalo American Legion, Post 169 and the United States Marine Corps.
