Richard Vashon Perry, 18, of Benton Harbor passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.
A celebration of life home going service will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 14, 2023 at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 214 E. Britain Ave., Benton Harbor. Burial will follow at Crystal Springs Cemetery, Benton Harbor, MI. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 am also at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to Starks & Menchinger Chapel to assist with funeral expenses. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
Richard was born on November 10, 2004 to Angelique Bell and Richard Perry in St. Joseph. He attended Benton Harbor High School and Canyon State Academy in Queen Creek, AZ. Richie was a wonderful athlete and excelled in track, basketball and football. While at Canyon State he ran track and they went on to win the State Championship. The staff at Canyon State often shared their gratitude for knowing Richie, and the positive impact he made on others at the Academy. Most of all, he was passionate about his family and cherished time spent with them.
Richie is survived by his mother, Angelique M. Bell; father, Richard A. Perry; maternal grandmother, Emma Bell Kelley; paternal grandmother, Janice Merriweather; brothers, Shonntarius Perry and Demetrius Tate; sisters, Shawneika Swanson and Dawneika Swanson; girlfriend, Kayla McFarland; eight nieces & nephews and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Johnnie B. Bell; paternal grandfather, Charles Perry; uncle, Theron Perry and nephew, Edward Barnes III.
