Obituary for Richard Don Hutchinson (1944- 2023)
Richard Don Hutchinson (Hutch), age 78, of Coloma, Michigan passed away Friday, April 21, 2023 at Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph Michigan. Richard was born October 1, 1944 to William and Marie (Craig) Hutchinson in Benton Harbor, Michigan at Mercy Hospital.
“Hutch” was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School, class of 1964. Following school, he joined the Air Force to serve his country during the Vietnam era and worked as an Aero Ground Space Equipment Operator/Repairman. After returning home, he married Connie Marsh on September 24, 1971.
Hutch worked at Whirlpool as a machine operator for 14 years until the company moved manufacturing operations out of the area. During the next 10 years, he became a Massage Therapist working with the Holistic Alliance in St. Joseph, Michigan, as well as doing therapy at marathons and track and field events.
From 2000 to 2020 Hutch was a member of the Lighthouse Chorus, singing barbershop harmony and performing at local and regional events and singing valentine greetings to raise funds for the local food banks.
Richard is survived by his wife Connie (Marsh) and his stepchildren, Nanette and Scott Nichols; his sister, Marsha Smith; two grandchildren, Meredith and Gary Nichols; and a few nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Bonnie Shufelt, and a brother David.
Cremation has taken place and a burial will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date to be announced.
