Richard “Rick” Allen Ghareeb, 74, of Union Pier, MI passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday – October 24, 2021. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel – 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI.
Rick was born on April 15, 1947 in Michigan City, IN to the late George and Josephine (Oselka) Ghareeb. After graduating from New Buffalo High School in 1965, he served his country while in the U.S. Navy. He married the love of his life Carolyn Ann Dehne on March 22, 1969. Carolyn, their children and grandchildren were the center of his world. Rick loved his annual trips to Maui with Carolyn. He was a man whom could do anything and everything. He enjoyed playing golf, woodworking, drag racing his Firebird and showing off his restored ’69 Camaro, and working on other hot rods and classic cars. Rick was a member of the New Buffalo Lions Club, the American Legion and the Jay-Cee’s. He belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Sawyer and served as an usher there for many years. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife of over 52 years Carolyn; his children – Rachel (Gary) Folino of Three Oaks, MI, Sarah (Brian) Craig of Brownsburg, IN and Richard “Brandon” Ghareeb of Sawyer, MI; nine grandchildren - Kayla, Becka, Aden, Abigail, Emily, Athena, Lilly, Hunter and Adler; and a sister – Yvonne Ghareeb of Clemmons, NC.
A Memorial Service celebrating Rick’s life will take place on January 15, 2022, 11am, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sawyer, MI. Friends may visit with the family one hour preceding the service from 10-11am at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to the New Buffalo Lions Club.
