Raymond Floyd Mak, age 91, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 12, 2023, he was at Hanson Hospice Center.
A Celebration of Ray’s life will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 11:00 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Baroda with a visitation starting at 10:00 am. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be made to Caring Circle Hospice, St. John’s Lutheran Church of Baroda, or Michigan Flywheelers Museum. Ray was born and baptized on November 21, 1931, in St. Joseph, Michigan to Emil and Edna (Phiscator) Mak. On April 21, 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Jean Siewart, and they spent 67 loving years together until her passing in October of 2018. They were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Baroda, which he helped build and they were both long time active members.
He retired from Whirlpool after 37 years where he served as the union Chief Steward. He and Jean owned Ray’s Sales and Auction Services in St. Joe. He was Constable of Lincoln Township in 1956. He was Chairman of the joint board of commissioners that oversees the Benton Harbor and St. Joseph Wastewater Treatment Plant, he retired from that in 2021. He was an avid John Deere tractor lover. He collected rare and vintage tractors and restored many of them. Ray also enjoyed making wine and giving it as gifts. He enjoyed spending time with his friends on Saturdays out in the barn, they named themselves the Liars Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with Harry Gast who was like a brother to him.
Ray is survived by his chosen son Mark (Jayme) and their daughter Kennedy McKie of Bridgman. Also, many nieces and nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Beverly Jean Mak; and brother, Warren Mak.
