Phyllis's Obituary
Phyllis Mae (Bavido) Erickson, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 21, 2023 surrounded by her family. Most recently, to be near loved ones, she was a resident of Holland, Michigan. She was born in St. Joseph, Michigan, on December 5, 1941, where she lived until she married her high school sweetheart, on July 7, 1962. They then spent a short time in Eureka, California, before settling in Grand Ledge, Michigan, where she spent most of her life and raised her two children.
She is survived by her husband, George Willard Erickson, Jr., of Holland Michigan; her daughter, Kimberly Anne (David) Walstrom, of Holland, Michigan; her son, Michael Erickson, of Holland, Michigan; her grandson, Joseph (Shelby) Peiffer and two great-grandchildren, of Zeeland, Michigan; her sister, Sandra Katowich, of Mishawaka, Indiana; her brother, Sam (Sheila) Bavido, of St. Joseph, Michigan; and many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was feisty, caring, stubborn, sweet, and funny. She loved to cook, listen to Elvis, fiddle in the garden and yard until everything was “just right,” spend time with her family, watch her favorite television shows, and play endless hands of cards.
Her family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Holland Hospital for their compassion and kindness in making her transition a peaceful one.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 12 PM until 3 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. A private burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Those wishing to share a memory or sign Phyllis’ Memory Book online may do so at starksfamilyfh.com.
