Phyllis was born April 10th, 1938 in Waterbury, Connecticut to Henry George and Elsie (Johnson) Freeman. The family moved to Michigan in 1949. Phyllis grew up in South Haven where she graduated South Haven High School in 1959. She worked alongside her mother at the South Haven Hospital kitchen for years. Her service there helping people with dietary needs continued for thirty-nine years.
Phyllis enjoyed doing artwork, drawing and creating plaster of Paris projects. Many that knew her would tell you how much she carried a big love for her cats; though she had dogs too. Another thing Phyllis loved was being called or calling others: “Babycakes”. This was her signature to all who knew her even in her final days with hospice. Up until that time she was very involved with the community of South Haven, Michigan.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her father, Henry George Freeman, her mother, Elsie Johnson and four siblings, Henry Freeman, Geraldine Williams, Juanita Lewis and Pauline.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Filbrandt Chapel - Starks Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. 269-637-0333
