Paul was born July 13, 1926 in Jacksonville, IL to James & Leona (Robinson) Merritt. With an eighth-grade education, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he served his country in World War II stationed in Japan. In 1950, he married the love of his life, Georgia M. Allen. Paul worked many years at Kmart on Riverview Drive, where he retired. Some of Paul’s favorite past times were playing pool with his closest nephew, Lee James. They would go fishing, recycle bottles and watch T.V. together. We fondly remember he would always say to his little cousin, “Erica Robinson you aint into nothing”.
Added to this union were eight children, Kandi (Stephen), Joey (Dechelle), Glenda (Donald) Todd (Shirley) and Micha; deceased children, Brian, Ronald and Paul Jr; grandchildren, Diamon, Jasmine, Joey Jr., Carlos (Mona), Brian (Rebecca), Monte, Jessica, Marlon, Donti, Jasmine, and Micha Jr.; deceased granddaughter, Monita; sister, Arlene Sisson and deceased sisters, Juliette and Birdie. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He will also be truly missed by his Benton Harbor community.
Also, preceding him in death, John Love and Mae Love, his closest uncle and aunt.
Our dad was truly the kindest man in the world and he loved unconditionally. Until I see you again Honey, I’m going to take care of your Queen. We love you, Daddy.
