Patrick's Obituary

Patrick J. Walsh, age 83, went to be with the Lord on November 24, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at St. John's Evangelist Church, 10701 Olcott Ave, St. John, IN 46373. Fr. Mark Brummel will be officiating. Visitation with the family will take place from 9:30 A.M. on Saturday till time of service at the church. Patrick graduated from Mendel Catholic High School in 1956. He served proudly as a Private First Class in the US Army, primarily in Aschaffenburg, Germany. Patrick married the love of his life, Lucia in 1963, they were soulmates. He was a resident of St. John, Indiana for 48 years, active in coaching his three daughters in girls’ softball in the 1970’s and 1980’s and was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Parish for 48 years, most recently involved in the Migrant Ministry and Hispanic Ministry. He belonged to the Chicago Typographical Union # 16 for 40 years, was a Water Treatment Specialist for the Indiana State Department of Corrections for 10 years and served as Unit Chair and Trustee for UAW/AFT Local #9212 for many years. He was a lifelong fan of the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears. Family remembers Patrick being a great cook, home remodeler and taking pride in his yard. He enjoyed cruises and traveling with his wife Lucia. He was thoughtful, kind, attentive and generous while dealing with others. He enjoyed spending time at the cottage in Michigan with his extended family.

Pat was a devoted and loving husband to Lucia C. Navarro-Walsh for 58 years; a beloved father to three daughters, Ruth (Jerry) Sheldon, Eileen (Herve) Walsh-Miot, and Lucia (Ron) Griffin; grandfather to eight grandchildren, Elizabeth and Leah Sheldon, Sebastien and Marie-Claire Walsh-Miot and Katherine, Patrick, Emmitt, and Joseph Griffin; sister, Corrine (Casimir) Rzegocki and loved and respected by all his nieces and nephews. Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Katherine Walsh and sisters, Kay (Joseph) Serio and Leonita (Kevin) Hayes.
