Patricia's Obituary
“Patty Lou” was born August 8th, 1934. She was the beloved, only child of her mama, Katie Roundtree, until she passed when Patty was 12 years old. From an only child, in Long Beach, CA to one of 7 children, In Beaumont TX. Patty moved to live with her 7 cousins, Uncle Clarence and Aunt May. At age 16 Patty met Fred Regan, at a dinner her aunt was giving for the area servicemen. They were engaged before Fred left for Germany and married when she turned 18. They moved to Fred’s home state of Ohio. Pat became a mom three times while living in OH. Sherrie Ann (Attila) Arthur, Beverlie Ann (Horndasch), Julie Ann (Longstreet} (Steve}. Fred’s new job with Whirlpool Corp took them to MI. They settled in St. Joseph, MI in 1957. They were blessed with three more children …a “son” Lawrence Michael (Brenda), Therese Ann (Story) Bob and Kathleen Ann (Gill) Jeff. Fred preceded her in death on May 4, 2003.
Pat loved being a mom. She never played favorites, yet each of her kids knew they were her favorite. She made life a continual party. She was our Snow White (her Disney favorite) Everyone whistled while they did their “chart work” so that fun could happen, the beach, the park, the Blossom Parade, the Whirlpool picnic, camping, holidays, birthdays, vacations to Ohio to see the cousins. She was a party girl! She made everything feel like it was fun …even the hard work!
Pat was a woman of deep faith. She loved Jesus with her whole heart. She embodied the directive given in James 2:20, “Faith without works is dead.” Her faith was ALIVE with works.
She was Jesus’ hands and feet to so many. Pat taught kids in the CCD program for 20+ years at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She served weekly at the food bank in Benton harbor at the Catholic Center. She was a greeter at St. Joseph’s with her dearest friend (of 50 years) Jan Versaw. Pat served as the “Book Lady” at the Whitcomb. She made her kids laugh, “I’m off to help the old people.” “Mom, You’re older than most of those people.”
For 8 years Pat enjoyed supporting her homeschooled grandkids by volunteering for HPA Homeschool Performing Arts in Kalamazoo. She endeared herself to the kids as their Costume mom, or Hair stylist and makeup artist. She was Grandma Pat to 80 + kids.
Pat was known as Mom, Ma Regan, Grandma Pat, and GG. As much as she loved being a mom, she loved being a grandma and great grandma {GG} even more.
Her quiver was full… 13 grandkids and 17 greats with one on the way. She was loved so much that grandchildren are traveling from FL, MA, OR, ID to honor her as we celebrate her life. Let’s meet her loves:

Grandma Pat invested in the greatest gift you can give kids… TIME. She played with them, read to them, buggy walked everywhere. Her sleep overs with Aunt Julie were legendary, so were her bowling parties and the most loved…her Christmas gift weekends for the entire family at the Holiday Inn… rooms by the pool, a stocked snack room and games all set up by Grandma. The kids looked forward to game nights, cookie bakes and her ever famous Christmas Eve Open House. No one wanted to miss breakfast on the beach on the 4th of July. The Gill grandkids had it the best. They got to live with Grandma for 4 years while their new house was being built…yep, they had it the best!
Pat had a passion for styling hair. It began as a small child watching her mom who was a stylist and moved to Saturday nights with her girls lined up while watching Lawrence Welk—pin curls lots and lots of pin curls –the effect---a balloon of curls on 5 girls in the front row every Sunday at church. In her 50’s she went to Cosmetology school in South Bend, IN. with her dear friends Roger Newman and Jeff Horsic. She graduated after winning 1st place for hair design (using her daughter Kathie as her model). The three of them formed a partnership and opened Rumors Hair Studio. Pat styled hair professionally until she was 72 and for several of her kids & grandkids many years after that.
Pat was a world traveler. She made an impression in every country she visited. She won a limbo contest in her 60’s in Mexico, gave a man in Morocco a piece of her mind, “How dare he,” He wanted to buy her blonde daughter, Julie, …Yes buy her! She danced on stage in Acapulco and was naughty in Hawaii. She picked an orchid…. $10,000 fine {if caught}. She enjoyed 5 years wintering in Siesta Key with daughters Julie and Sherrie. It was her happy place. Pat lived life to its fullest and if you were with her on an adventure, you did too.
Pat loved her home and her flowers. She was able to live and enjoy her life in that dear place (except for her last 6 hours on this earth) thanks to her daughter Beverlie who lived with her for 20 years. She oversaw house maintenance, lawn care, and was a snowblower extraordinaire. She brought her Rooster’s chicken and took walks with her to Dairy Corner. The entire family is so thankful.
Pat was a wise woman. She frequently shared, “You can be happy and comfortable, or you can be happy and growing, but you can never be comfortable and growing at the same time.” The loss of mom, grandma & GG is not comfortable, but we are so happy that she was in our lives for so many wonderful years. And in her honor, we all pledge to continue to grow, to serve and to love like she did every day of her life.
Pat took her last breath as her daughter Tess sat by her side at 10:30 pm March 19, 2024, Thank you Hospice at Hanson Care Park. “Well done good and faithful servant.” Matt 20:21
