Buzz's Obituary
Nelson Scott “Buzz” Christianson Died in Dowagiac, Michigan on September 2nd, 2022 after a long illness.
Buzz was born in Washington, D.C. on November 2, 1948 and grew up in suburban Washington, D.C. where he attended high school at Wakefield High School in Arlington Virginia and graduated from The Catholic University of American with a degree in Speech and Drama.
During employment as a set carpenter in Joseph Papp’s NYC Theater, Shakespeare in the Park, Buzz met Julia Ervin (who died in September 2021) who worked as a theatrical seamstress, and they married in June 1984.
Buzz and Julia lived and worked for many years in Arlington where Buzz worked as a custom carpenter and cabinetmaker.
In 2009, Buzz and Julia moved to Oklahoma City to care for Julia’s sister, Woods Ervin. Soon thereafter, Buzz and Julia found and opened their long-dreamed-of organic gardening operation, Christianson’s Greenhouse, in Decatur Michigan and they became dedicated and involved residents of their community there.
Buzz enjoyed reading and had and extensive book collection. He was knowledgeable on a variety of subjects: wood, lumber, tools, science, and science fiction, poetry, history, the English language and MAD Magazine. He loved to recite lines from Shakespeare with his father.
He was preceded in death by Julia (September 2021) and is survived by his remaining sibling, a sister Nora Trodden of Charlottesville, Virginia, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and by dear friends in Decatur. Buzz’s droll, droll sense of humor and his vast knowledge will be missed.
At his request there will be no service.
