Nanette's Obituary

Nanette Mary Black, 74, of Stevensville, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022 at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph.

A celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, December 26, 2022 at 11:00am, at Stevensville United Methodist Church, 5506 Ridge Rd, Stevensville, with Pastor Elise Low Edwardson officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Starks and Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph from 4pm until 6pm. Nanette was born on September 6, 1948, in Benton Harbor, to Louis and Ella (Downer) Boettcher. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1966. On March 29, 1979 Nanette married Hugh W. Black at Stevensville United Methodist Church. She married Robert Phillips in 1967. Nanette worked as a secretary for the Sherriff Department for many years. She also was heavily involved with her church as a Youth Leader and was active in the Women’s Republican Club and the Fraternal Order of Police for Berrien County.

Nanette is survived by her husband Hugh; daughter Kerry (Robert) Blake of Buchannan; step children Mary Markin of South Bend, IN, and Christopher Black of Milwaukee, WI; granddaughter Kylee Burger of South Carolina; step grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; sisters Barbara Treas of Minneapolis, MN, and Jeanine Sillaway of Boynton Beach, FL; brother Mark (Lori) Boettcher of St. Joseph; and many nieces and nephews.

Nanette was preceded in death by her brothers Paul Boettcher and Kurt Boettcher and by her nephew Jeff Sillaway.
