Nancy's Obituary

Nancy Lee Popke went to be with Jesus on Thursday, January 27th at her daughter’s home under the care of hospice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home – 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI.
Nancy was a lifelong resident of Benton Harbor, Michigan. She was a graduate of Benton Harbor High School and a member of St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was a member of a Ladies Auxiliary and loved helping to chose the altar flowers. For many years she worked for Michigan Fruit Canners and Lakeland Hospital. Nancy was always up for a good chat, shopping trip, game of monopoly, watching the sunset over Lake Michigan from the warmth of the indoors when she wasn’t reading a good book or watching a western on TV. Nancy loved life and deeply touched the lives of others around her.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents Morris and Francis Strome, her sister, Beverly Layne, her son David Popke, and her daughter Brenda Campbell. She leaves behind her daughter Leann (Robert) VanBrocklin and her daughter-in-law Lita Popke. Besides her children, Nancy was a very proud Nana. Her grandchildren Jennifer (Matthew) Lutz, Kevin (Danielle) Campbell, Kiersten Popke, Donald Popke, and her greatgrandchildren Adam, Juliana, Charlie, Emmett, and Grayson also enjoyed her unconditional love.
Please join the family for a visitation held at Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home on Monday, February 7th from 5-7 PM and a Christian Funeral Service at St. Matthew’s ELC located at 125 Kline St, Benton Harbor, MI, beginning at 10AM on Tuesday, February 8th. Burial will follow at Crystal Springs Cemetery, Benton Harbor, MI.
