Mona's Obituary
Mona Kay (Kirchner) MacKimmie, 86, of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday October 20, 2021 while in palliative care at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, IN.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 29, 2021 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph with Pastor Dan Colthorp officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday, October 28, 2021, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Chapel. Friends may also visit with the family on Friday, from 9:30AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph First United Methodist Church, 2950 Lakeview Ave., St. Joseph, Mi 49085, Scottdale United Methodist Church, 4271 Scottdale Rd., St. Joseph, MI., 49085, Sarett Nature Center, 2309 Benton Center Rd., Benton Harbor, MI 49022. and ECHO Global Garden, 17391 Durrance Rd., North Fort Myers, FL 33917. Mona was born December 5, 1934 in Hammond Indiana to Paul Henry Kirchner and Jesse Marion (Cox) Kirchner. Mona married Jim MacKimmie on April 12, 1958 in South Haven, Michigan. She began her 41-year career at Whirlpool Corporation at age 17. Mona had a distinguished career and retired as a Laundry Product Planning Manager, sales to Sears. She loved to collect cookbooks and was always looking for new recipes to plan meals and entertain at her home. Mona also loved to read and play golf.
Mona is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jim MacKimmie; her daughter, Laura MacKimmie, Siblings; Karen Horton, Samuel (Veda) Kirchner, Bethea Scott and Sister-in-law, Norma Kirchner. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Barbara Blake and brother Paul Kirchner.
