Michael's Obituary

Michael B. Mattix, age 76, a lifelong resident of Dowagiac passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022, at his home. He was born on June 10, 1946, in Dowagiac, the son of the late Kenneth and Doris (Phillips) Mattix.

In 1971, Mike began working at Rudy Furnace Co. He continued his employment through several name changes (Sundstrand Heat Transfer and Modine) eventually retiring from National Copper Products in 2008. Mike was also a volunteer fireman for 25 years and EMT for 10 years for Dowagiac Fire Dept and 37 year member and past president of the Dowagiac Homing Pigeon Club.

On January 14, 1984, he was united in marriage to Melonie (Hysell) Mattix, who survives. Also surviving are their children: Rochelle Mattix of Niles, Krin (Darby) Smith of Dowagiac, Darcy Bornas (Douglas) of Lawton, Brandie (Jason Maxwell) Darr of Paw Paw; and Matthew (Melissa) Darr of CA; daughters/granddaughters: Lanie and Rheana Mattix-Gist; grandchildren: Brooke (DJ) Thomas, Brittany (Brandon Villarreal) Smith, Thomas Smith, Brennan Bornas, Brady Bornas, Brenden Bornas, Sara Maxwell, Maxwell Darr-Maxwell, Willow Maxwell and Kaylee Darr; great-grandchildren: Harper and Landon Thomas; brother: Gary (Karol) Mattix of Kalamazoo; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Preceding him in death were parents and brother: Wayne Mattix.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church, Dowagiac. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac. There will be no public visitation or services.

Services have been entrusted to Starks Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services – Clark Chapel, 405 Center St, Dowagiac.
