Michael's Obituary
Michael Anthony Niec, 85, of Stevensville, Michigan, passed away on Friday, July 8th, 2022, at Spectrum Health Lakeland in St Joseph, Michigan.
Michael was born on January 23rd, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Fenwick High School where he was a two-time All-American swimmer. Michael continued his education at the University of Illinois and Roosevelt University where he received a BS in Biology. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and became a member of the local VFW. Michael was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed swimming, cross country skiing, kayaking, canoeing and hiking the dunes of Grand Mere. He was an active member of the Berrien County Sportsman Club Inc.
Michael is survived by his daughter, Kalae Niec-Cearley; step-daughter Missy Thrasher; granddaughter, Britain Cearley; great-grandchildren, Zaylen and Kylan Cearly; brother, Anthony (Carol) Niec; nieces, nephews and cousins, and special granddog, Atlas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Priscilla (Glenicki) Niec Weclew; father, Joseph Niec; step-father, Dr. Thaddeus Weclew; son-in-law, Dwight Cearley; longtime partner, Karen Ishibashi; sister, Natalee Shea and niece, Karen Shea.
The family will celebrate Michael’s life privately at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks and Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
