Maxine's Obituary

Dear Family and Friends,

Do not be sad at my passing, I lived a long and fruitful life with lots of joy, love, and laughter, where quiet moments were rare, but I would not have had it any other way. I was named Maxine and was the beloved only child of the late Phillip L. and Ruth Lomack, born December 19, 1943, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

I attended Gladstone Elementary and Crane High School. I spent a lot of time in the Steward household where I had many friends, which was exciting because my house was always so quiet in comparison and that is where I met the love of my life Lee Earnest Steward, Sr. whom I married, April 20, 1958 and who preceded me in death in 2018. We were married 60 years and had the big family we always wanted, raising six children two proceeding us in death Carmela and Lee Earnest, Jr.

We leave four children behind, Carmen (Irving), Phillip (Lisa), Curtis (Roshonne), Kelly (Nicole) and Daughter-in-law (Cindy). Also 21 Grandchildren, 35 Great Grandchildren, and 6 Great-Great, Grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. I truly loved children and having a big family as you can see by the numbers ensured my house was always full of joy and laughter.

I accepted Christ early in life and was baptized by late Reverend Stevens at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois. I was an active member in Covert Community Church under the leadership of Pastor Terrie Mahone and Pastor Andrew Holloway in Covert, Michigan.

I truly enjoyed caring for others and used my nurturing spirit to foster several children and I worked in Nursing Homes and Hospitals. I also had an entrepreneurial spirit; I was a licensed Beautician owning a beauty salon in Chicago and Michigan and my last business venture along with my husband was Pleasantview Adult Foster Care Home which we owned and operated for more than 10 years.

My departure took place, Friday, November 3, 2023, at 7:00am at the Bronson Hospital in South Haven, Michigan. I have fought the good fight and have finished my course; I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7). Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (Thessalonians 5:16-18).

A Wake will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Gospel Tabernacle Church, 32605 M-140 Covert, Michigan 49243 from 11 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 12 p.m. Reverend Mahone will officiate.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Filbrandt Chapel-Starks Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. 269-637-0333.
