Maryanne Butt, 73, of E. Lansing, MI passed away peacefully under hospice care on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
She was born in Auburn, AL on February 4, 1950, the daughter of Jane and Jimmy Butt, who preceded her in death. Maryanne was a graduate of Benton Harbor High School and Western Michigan University, where she was a member of Alpha Phi sorority. She began her journalism career at the Herald-Palladium, later moved to E. Lansing, where she became the editor of the Michigan Hospital Association magazine and a freelance writer. She also edited thesis papers for graduate students.
Maryanne (affectionately known to family and friends as 'Monk') loved horseback riding, her many pets, college football, and her prowess at solving New York Times Sunday crossword puzzles. She is survived by her sister, Janie Berry, her brother, Jim Butt (fiancee' Sandra Morey), 6 nieces and nephews, and 4 grand nephews.
Maryanne will be buried alongside her parents at Riverview Cemetery. A private service honoring her life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the St. Joseph Lions Club, of which her Father was a member.
