Mary Wortman

Mary R. Wortman, 69, of St. Joseph, MI, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023. Born November 6, 1953, in Rockford, IL. daughter of Alfred and Marjorie (Grindle) Heitz. Graduate of Guilford High School, Class of 1972 and Rockford College with a degree in Art History. Mary married Mark Wortman October 3, 1981 and recently celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary. She was a Flight Attendant with Pan Am Airlines, art teacher, and most recently Real Estate Agent for @ properties Christie’s Int’l Realty. Mary was a hostess for the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics. She is a member of First Congregational Church of St. Joseph, MI and former member of Bethesda Covenant Church in Rockford, IL. Mary enjoyed art, traveling, vacations with family and time at the lake. Most of all she loved family time with her children and grandchildren. Mary will be remembered for her welcoming approach to people, laugh, smile and great sense of humor.

Survived by her husband, Mark; sons, Andrew, Douglas (Kaylin), and Stuart (Kristen); grandchildren, Morgan, Carter, Lizzie, Jameson, Caroline, Theo; siblings, Steve (Kim) Heitz, John (Phoung) Heitz and Laurie Ledgerwood; aunt Vi Grindle; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents.

Celebration of life will be on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at First Congregational Church UCC, 2001 Niles Ave., St. Joseph, MI. Visitation will be from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. with service to follow.
