Mary's Obituary

Mary Ann Tinkey, 73, of Ceresco, formerly of Dowagiac, passed away on Thursday morning, July 27, 2023. She was born on May 21, 1950 in Hardy, Arkansas, the daughter of the late George and Ruby (Mann) Wilson.

On June 6, 1970, she was united in marriage to Larry K. Tinkey.

Mary spent many years providing child care for multiple families while being a stay at home mom to her two children. Mary continued onto receive her Associates Degree from Southwestern Michigan College. She also obtained her Cosmetology license where she practiced up until the spring of 2023.

Mary was known for her spunky, but tenderhearted personality. She was a selfless, loving and caring wife, mother, grandma, and sister. Her love for those around her was never something that needed to be questioned; it was always evident by her compassionate demeanor. She was a kind, loving, and soft spoken individual who touched the lives of those around her. Her gentle nature and caring heart left a lasting impact on many. Her compassion knew no bounds and will continue on in those she loved.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years: Larry Tinkey; their two children: Sean (Marcy) Tinkey and Shanna (Norman) Corliss, six grandchildren: Jacob (Danielle) Reeves, Griffin (Sarah)Tinkey, Molly Tinkey, Liz (Wes) Rutherford, Matt (Jessica) Corliss and Madalyn Bell, five great-grandchildren: Noelle, Luka, Owen, Brynlee and Gavin; sisters: Pearl (George) Lovell and Louise Coffey; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death were her parents; George and Ruby Wilson, brothers: Hubert, Herbert, Bryan, Jasper(JC), George Jr, William Andrew and John, sisters: Pauline, Gladys Mae and Lorene.

She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. May her memory continue to inspire acts of kindness and love in the hearts of those she left behind.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday September 30, at Clark Chapel – Starks Family Funeral Homes, 405 Center Street, Dowagiac, where friends may visit with the family from 2:00 PM until the time of services. Pastor Leon Dayfield will officiate. A luncheon will follow at Dowagiac Elks Lodge #889, 300 Riverside Dr, Dowagiac. The family would like to thank Centrica Care for the support and compassion they provided as they guided them through difficult times.
