Marvin's Obituary
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St. Dowagiac. Pastor Tracy Hatcher will open in prayer and read the obituary followed by the Masons who will provide the Masonic Rites. Burial with military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Dowagiac. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, form 12:30 until the time of service at the funeral home. Those wishing to leave a message of condolence for the family may do so at www.clarkch.com.
Marvin was born October 12, 1924, in Dowagiac to Clyde and Etta (Curtis) Probst. He graduated from Dowagiac High school in 1942. After high school, Marvin joined the United States Army where he honorably served his country during World War II. On September 4, 1945, he married the love of his life, Betty Messenger. Together they raised two daughters, Sandra Lea and Lisa Ann. After being discharged from the military, Marvin worked as a carpenter for many years before he retired. He was known as a kind hearted man who loved his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Marvin is survived by his granddaughter, Leann Shaw; sister, Ida Corbett; his close friends and caretakers, Owen Brookins, Robin Dockery and Veloria Brookins; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Etta Probst; wife, Betty Probst; daughters, Sandra Pence and Lisa Shaw; and siblings, Veryl Pagels, Dorothy Acton, Harold Probst, Albert Probst and Donna Chapman.
Marvin's surviving family and friends would like to give a special thank you to the Guardianship and Alternatives for the special care they gave Marvin.
