Marrie's Obituary
Marrie Allen Reddel emanated a free-spirited joy as a wife, mother, Nanny, aunt, sister, friend, artist and entrepreneur. She was well known in St. Joseph for her business skills and personable character.
As a lover of travel, Marrie owned and operated Reddel Travel for over 40 years with her husband, Roger. A bonus of the business was the ability to take many travel adventures with her family and friends to the Caribbean, Japan, Argentina and beyond.
On January 11, 2023, Marrie, 78, passed away at home with her husband and three children by her side. She lived with Parkinson’s disease for the last years of her life while still enjoying time with her family and bird-watching in her beautiful backyard.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Roger Reddel, her daughters Tracey Carter & Jennifer (Carter) Sykora and son, Brook Reddel, her granddaughters Kelley & Zoey Sykora, and great grandson Noah; her sisters Becky (Mike) Brown and Francie VanderMolen, her brother Tim (Iris) Allen and numerous nieces & nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Tommy, her brother-in-laws Steve VanderMolen and David (Lou Anne) Reddel, her sister-in-law Pat (Stu) Bischoff, her nephews Nick Bischoff, Kevin & Bryan Brown.
Marrie was born on May 28, 1944 in Michigan City, IN to Mary Jane & George Allen of Long Beach, IN. In 1957, the family moved to the U.S. Virgin Islands and Marrie graduated from Robinson School in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She received an associate’s degree in Art from Marjorie Webster Junior College in Washington D.C. and started her travel career as a PanAm ticket agent in St. Croix.
She was an abstract painter and curated her home with her beloved collections and treasures from her travels. Marrie was a role model to her children, and their friends, plus her nieces & nephews. Her love of life was contagious; she will be missed greatly by many and remembered forever.
