Marie's Obituary
Marie Curtis, 88, of Chicago, Illinois departed her earthly home to eternal rest with her Lord and Savior on February 17, 2023. She was born November 24, 1934 to the late Walter and Katie Mae (Nelums) Jenkins in Shaw, Mississippi.
Marie, moved from Mississippi to Chicago. While growing up in Chicago she attended Douglas elementary and Wendell Phillips High School. She married Horace Cleophas Mackey and soon gave birth to her two sons, Steve and Horace. She was an LPN first with Mercy Hospital and shortly thereafter, working most of her years at Michael Reese Hospital, where she retired. She was an active member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church of Chicago, with her late husband, George Curtis. George was a Trustee and Marie was active in children's evangelism and taught Vacation Bible School and Adult Sunday School.
A Visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Lily of the Valley Church in Covert, Michigan. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. with Bishop Darryl Williams officiating.
Marie is survived by her two sons, Steve Mackey (Donna) of Covert, and Horace Cleophas Mackey Jr. of Chicago, IL, four Grandchildren, Steve (Terri) Mackey Jr., Marques (Erica) Mackey, Horace Mackey III, John (Raven) Mackey, and seven
great-grandchildren, Malia, Madison, Sydney, Simone, Serron, John Jr. and Reese. Also, two sisters, Lee Ann Tyler of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Katie Veronica Hill, Waukegan, IL.
Besides her parents, she was preceded by her husband George Curtis, and 2 sisters, Dorothy Cubie, Doretha Latimore and one brother, Walter Jenkins, Jr.
