Margaret's Obituary

Margaret H. Szabo, 96, of Stevensville, passed away, Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland in St. Joseph.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Fr. James Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville. Friends may visit with the family from Noon until 1:30 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Margaret was born December 2, 1926 in South Bend, IN to Steve & Barbara (Varga) Habis. On June 21, 1947, she married Julius Szabo in South Bend. They were married for 65 years. Most recently, Margaret was employed at Harding’s Market which became D & W in Stevensville, retiring after twenty years. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church & St. John/St. Bernard Parish. Margaret enjoyed Ballroom & Polka dancing with her husband & they enjoyed the time spent at Stevensville American Legion. She was the best mother & grandmother and cherished the time spent with her family. Margaret was an excellent cook and made the best Hungarian Kiefles. No one ever left her home hungry.

Margaret is survived by her children-Ronald (Anna) Szabo & Sharon “Sheri” (Steve) Hunding, both of Stevensville; and two grandchildren-Michael (Jami) Zeller & Nikolay Bagaev. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Julius on December 17, 2012, and her sister Irene Besyner.
