Peggy's Obituary
Margaret “Peggy” Kolberg (Clem) was born on March 26th, 1930 in Hinchman, Michigan in a blinding snowstorm to Ellsworth and Mildred (Stole) Clem. Her birth story even made the local papers. She was one of five children and spent her early days enjoying Lake Michigan, going on walks and being an active socialite. Later she married Raymond Kolberg, a drummer and NAVY veteran, in St Joseph and went on to raise a family of three children.
Peggy was a kind mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She was beautiful both inside and out. She enjoyed watching sports, long walks along the shoreline looking for beach glass, traveling “up North” for the weekend and spending time with her family. She loved music with “good drums”, collecting anything with the image of a honeybee on it and decorating her home for the holidays. She could often be seen in a U of M sweatshirt with a cocktail in hand and a smile on her face. Most people would agree that Peggy was an all-around great time.
After her husband Ray passed, she spent many years with her companion, John, living in Niles, Michigan. After his passing, she moved to Lapeer, Michigan to live with one of her daughters; Alison and her family.
Peggy passed away at her residence at Suncrest Nursing Home in Lapeer, Michigan on January 15, 2024. She will be greatly missed there for her kindness, funny stories and calling everyone “honey” and “doll”. Her family is incredibly appreciative of the nurses there that helped take care of Peggy throughout her stay, even beyond the very end.
She is survived by her three children; daughter Cathy (Bill) Cox, son Craig Kolberg, and daughter Alison (Jim) Roemer. Also by her 4 wonderful grandchildren; Jason (Rita), Stephanie (Mark), Whitney and Jakub, and her two bright great-grandchildren; Kylie and Megan. She has one remaining brother, Dale (Sharon) Clem, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and John, sister Cecil and brothers Don and Larry.
Peggy was laid to rest on Friday, January 19th, 2024 at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. She will have a Celebration of Life this Spring. Arrangements by Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI 49085. Please feel free to share a memory with the family online at www.starks-menchinger.com.
