Marcia's Obituary

Marcia Ann Benson, 89, of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully, Monday, July 10, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

A Celebration of Life Gathering for Marcia & her son Mark, will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023 from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at The DANK, 2651 Pipestone Rd., Benton Harbor. Private burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Memorial donations in Marcia’s name may be made to Paws of Hope in Stevensville. Marcia was born March 24, 1934 in Roodhouse, Illinois to J. Norbert & Gladys M. (Admire) Tendick. On May 1, 1954, she married Lee Benson in Raleigh, North Carolina. She and Lee settled in St. Joseph where she kept busy. Marcia was active in PTA, Cub Scouts, Brownies & Girl Scouts, and as a Sunday School teacher while the children were in school. Marcia was president & co-owner with Lee in the family business, Benson Painting, which was founded in 1970. She painted and did the bookkeeping for many years. They also owned the Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Store in St. Joseph for many years. Marcia also worked as a physical therapist assistant, as a clerk at Sherwin Williams in St. Joseph, and because of her love of children, she worked at Trinity Lutheran Day Care in the infants Room, and most recently as a delivery driver for Tara Florist, from where she retired. Marcia was a member of St. Joseph First United Methodist Church. In her free time she enjoyed cooking, cleaning, gardening, lady bugs, hummingbirds, sewing, Tole painting, fresh flowers, mentoring children, traveling, games & puzzles, and most of all-entertaining, hosting parties and spending time with her family and many, many friends. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marcia is survived by her; children-David Benson of Benton Harbor, Milisa (Dean) Johnson of Fort Wayne, IN; two granddaughters-Ashley (Eric) Keefer & Shannon (Jonathan) Goad, all of Texas; great-grandchildren-Audrey & Aly Keefer, Kaili, Paige & Devin Destazio, JJ & Joy Goad; her sister Kathleen Holland; three sisters-in-law-Ann Benson, Judy Tendick & Jan Tendick; and several nieces & nephews. Marcia was preceded in death by her husband Lee on November 18, 2015, her son Mark on January 1, 2023, and by three brothers-E.J. "Dutches", Jay & Steven Tendick & brother-in-law James Holland.
