Lynn Obstfeld “Lynniebell” Sommer, 68, of St. Joseph, passed away, Friday, January 5, 2024 at her home, surrounded by family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 4:00 P.M. Friday, January 12, 2024 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Marc Danapilis officiating. Friends may visit with the family Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date at Hickory Bluff Cemetery. Lynn was born January 1, 1956 in New Orleans to Morton & Neva (Preston) Obstfeld. She graduated from Berrien Springs High School. While raising her daughter, Lynn went on to become a certified optician. She worked for many years at Sears & Penney’s in the optical department, and later worked in customer service for Whirlpool Corporation. On June 11, 2011, she married Ronald Sommer in Stevensville. They enjoyed many good times before his passing on April 11, 2013. Lynn just recently moved back to St. Joseph from South Carolina to be closer to her family and many friends. In her free time, she enjoyed many girls trips with her close friends, boating, fishing, gardening, canning vegetables, and going to the casinos- where crab legs were her favorite. Lynn’s greatest joy was being the #1 fan at her grandchildren’s sporting events, but most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family and friends. She was a woman of strong faith while her warm smile radiated the kindness in her heart. She cherished the time spent with her family and friends, and her beloved dogs, Ringo and Gizmo. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lynn is survived by her daughter Jennifer Price (Dan) Conroy of Menomonee Falls, WI; her grandchildren-Tyler & Caytlyn Conroy; siblings-Michael Obstfeld, Marlene Riley, Ronald Oliver & Murray Obstfeld; a brother-in-law Jerry Collins; and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ron, her parents Morton & Neva, and siblings-Merle Collins, Malcolm Obstfeld, David Williams, Gregory Williams, Daniel Obstfeld & nephew Aaron Obstfeld.
