Lucie's Obituary
Lucie E. Maxwell, 89, of South Haven passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022 at South Haven
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.
Lucie was born January 17, 1933, in South Haven to Edward and Frances (Nelson) Diebold. She
attended South Haven High School Class of 1951. On July 5, 1952, Lucie married the love of her
life, E.G. Maxwell, and they were happily married for 36 years before his passing in 1988.
Throughout her life Lucie worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at a number of South Haven
businesses. At retirement she was a bank teller for Berrien Teachers Credit Union. She was an
enthusiastic supporter of the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings and an accomplished knitter,
seamstress and quilter. Spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and
cats gave her the most joy.
Lucie is survived by her children Deborah (Paul) Cornell, Kim Maxwell, Lynne Maxwell and
Edward “Carter” (Marie) Maxwell; grandchildren Beth, Emily (Chris), Kate, Max (Amanda), David,
Kristin, Anna, Brita; great-grandchildren Kaylie, Margaret, and Charlie; great-great-grandchild
Roman; and her sister, Mary Jo (Ric) Trout, numerous nieces and a nephew.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, May 27, at 11 AM at Holy Trinity Anglican
Church, 67885 8th Ave., South Haven, with Rt. Rev. Robert Cornelison officiating. A private family
burial will take place at McDowell Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy
Trinity Anglican Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Filbrandt Chapel, 269-637-0333.
