Lou's Obituary

Louis F. “Lou” Geresy, 79, of Dowagiac, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville. A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, November 10 at 12 PM at Keeler Cemetery, with Pastor Tom Bird officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Caring Circle Hospice, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, MI 49085. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.

Lou was born on September 20, 1942 in Detroit, to Louis & Rose (Zakarais) Geresy. He attended Bangor High School where he was an avid basketball player helping to win the Michigan Class C Basketball Championship for Bangor in 1960. Known to many at that time as Dependable Lou, Peppy and Red Hot Lou! He graduated from high school in 1961, and shortly after he married the love of his life, Melinda “Sue” Crouse, on December 3, 1961, at Lakota Methodist Church. Lou retired from the Carpenter’s Union Local 525 in 2002 and prior to his work as a carpenter he owned and operated Geresy Hardware in Sister Lakes, Michigan. Lou was a founding member of the Lion’s Club of Sister Lakes and throughout his life enjoyed the hobbies of hunting, fishing, archery, gardening, woodworking and golf. He was a member of Keeler General Baptist Church, Hartford Federated Church and Crystal Springs Church of God. One of Lou’s most fond memories was when he was working at Keeler General Baptist Church and while working, he started talking with the Pastor and the Pastor led Lou to the Lord and saved him. From that moment forward, Lou was incredibly devoted to his Lord and Savior. However, what gave Lou the most joy was spending time with his family. He was so proud of all of his grandchildren and their accomplishments.

Lou is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years Sue, of Sister Lakes; daughters Kim (Peter) Pozivilko, Becky (Frankie) Hinson and Evelyn Geresy; son, Lou Geresy; grandchildren, Emily Geresy, Zach Hinson, Courtney Hinson, Ashley Pozivilko, Katie Pozivilko and David (Kala) Pozivilko; brother, Lynn (Karen) Geresy; sisters, Evelyn (Steve) Donato and Christine Kuhn; and faithful four-legged companion, Lilly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Rose Geresy; sisters Doris (George) Fragoules, and Carol Carter; brother-in-law, Dale Kuhn; and his beloved dogs Buddy, Buster and at times, Georgy.
