Lorraine E. Shafer, 93, of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, March 17, 2023 at her home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 25 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Jaime Cervantes officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 2:00P.M. at the funeral home. Lorraine was born December 3, 1929 in St. Joseph to August & Edith (Binger) Selent. She graduated from St. Joseph High School Class of 1948. On February 12, 1949 she married Donald W. Shafer in Baroda. Lorraine dedicated her life to caring for her family and their home while also working at Williams Bros. Box Factory in her earlier years, and later at Heath-Zenith in St. Joseph. Lorraine was also an Avon Representative for many years as well as providing child care for several area children. In her free time, she enjoyed creating beautiful ceramic pieces, baking sour dough bread, and most of all, the time spent with her family.
Lorraine is survived by her children Dona Kay Shafer of South Bend, Randy (Jenny) Shafer of Traverse City, Lynette (Joe) Glowacki of St. Joseph; grandchildren-Brandon (Ethan) Shafer, Brent (Gabby) Shafer, Heather (Colin) Zimmerman, Taylor Williams, Hailey (Nate) Zerba & Sydney Hubert; three great-grandchildren-Lucas & Jacob Zimmerman & Elaina Zerba; and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Don on January 15, 2018, an infant child in 1951, and siblings Elaine Koehler, LaVern Selent, Walter Lausman & Darlene Pullen.
