In loving memory of Lionel Casnave, Sr., – 84, of Benton Harbor, MI – a beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend – went on to be with the Lord on January 25, 2024.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 2, 2024 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 555 E. Delaware, Benton Harbor, with Fr. James Peter Ambrose officiating. Burial will follow at Crystal Springs Memorial Park, Benton Harbor. Friends may visit with the family beginning a 10:00 A.M. Friday at the Church. Lionel was born in Independence, Louisiana to Leon Casnave and Margaret Pierri Casnave on August 6, 1939.
Lionel departed this life at Spectrum Health Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph, MI, surrounded by his family. He married the former Betty Jane Henry on July 20, 1971 – the love of his life. Her passing left a void in his life that he could not fill.
Lionel lived a life of Catholic Faith going to Mass whenever he could. He was a member of St. John-St. Bernard Parish in Benton Harbor.
Lionel was employed for many years with Auto Specialties Corporation until their closing. After which, he found employment with Bosch in St. Joseph, retiring in 2002. In his free time, Lionel enjoyed fishing every chance he had. Working on cars gave him the opportunity to use his mechanic skills. He also made time for his favorite TV shows, but most of all, he enjoyed the time spent with his family and many friends.
Lionel is survived by his CHILDREN: Roxanne and her husband Frank Richburg of Fruita, CO; Margaret Casnave of Benton Harbor, MI; Lionel Casnave, Jr. and his wife Stacy of Grand Rapids, MI; Alicia and her husband Romero Hartley of Slidell, Louisiana, Lionel Casnave and his wife Danette of Picayune Mississippi; Betty’s youngest sister Janice and her husband Agusta Jackson of Hammond, Louisiana; SISTERS: Marion Felder, Ceola and her husband Calvin Angeletti, Elizabeth Faciane, Andriana Washington and Irma Casnave; BROTHER: Leo Casnave and his wife Anjo; Fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren all of whom he adored; a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Lionel was preceded in death by his wife Betty on December 18, 2009, his son Wayne Henry & his brother Herbert Casnave, his sister Hilda Bush, and two great-grandsons Jacob Coleman & Marlon Casnave, Jr.
