Linda's Obituary
Linda Lee (Hutton) Duncan died October 28th, 2023 in Stevensville, Michigan, after a second bout of cancer. Born July 21, 1954 to Sally Ann Japes Hutton Aman and Charles Leon Hutton, Linda spent her childhood in the metro Detroit area before moving to and graduating from Howell High School in 1972.
A city girl, she married a farmer but ended up a pastor’s wife instead, as Jim felt the call early on to switch professions. With pastorates at Warren Missionary Church, East Jordan Missionary Church in East Jordan, Michigan, Newson Missionary Church in St. Paris, Ohio, and Cornerstone Missionary Church in St. Joseph, Linda’s love of people and Jesus was able to flourish for more than 30 years.
From working with youth groups and organizing Christmas pageants to hosting Bible studies and prayer groups, Linda’s life was centered around the church as an outward expression of her deep and abiding faith. That continued even after her role of a pastor’s wife ended through their participation at Woodland Shores Baptist Church and First Church of God. Linda will be missed by her numerous friends who have enjoyed decades of prayer and laughter together.
In addition to Jim and Jesus, the other great joy of her life was spending time with her family, especially her nine grandchildren. A visit to grandma’s house often included a trip to the carousel in St. Joe and time at the beach. Alysa, Aiden, Baelin, Sydney, Elias, Logan, Faith, James, and Aowyn will all miss her weekly phone calls, her sense of humor, and her sometimes mystifying choice of Christmas presents.
Linda was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her sisters Colleen Bain and Lee Ann Hutton.
She is survived and mourned by her husband of 50 years, James Willis Duncan, her three sons and their families, Jason and Lisa (Bower) Duncan with Logan and Faith of Plainwell, Mi, Brennen and Sally (Green) Duncan with Alysa, Aiden, Baelin, Sydney, and Elias of Charlottesville, Va, and Jonathan and Kady (Annen) Duncan with James and Aowyn of Woodstock, Il, in addition to her in-laws George Bain, Bev and Kurt Wold, her brother, David Hutton, her nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Church of God 2627 Niles Avenue in St. Joseph, MI, 10:00am on Saturday – Nov. 18, with Pastor Chris Spitters officiating.
