Lee's Obituary

Liana T. “Lee” Cunningham, 84, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023 at her residence. Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 555 E. Delaware Ave., Benton Harbor, on Tuesday, August 22 at 11 AM with Father John Peter Ambrose officiating. A private burial will follow at Portland Cemetery in Portland, MI. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, August 21, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with the Rosary being recited at 6:30 PM. Lee was born July 1, 1939 in Lansing, MI to Albert & Quintilia (Agostini) Guidi. She attended St. Patrick’s High School and continued her education at Nazareth College earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. On July 29, 1961, Lee married the love of her life, David Cunningham in Portland, MI. Lee began working as a Bursar at the University of Chicago Law School from 1976 - 1981, then was promoted to Director of Admissions at University of Chicago Graduate School of Business from 1981-1991, and would eventually end up at the University of Notre Dame College of Business as the Director of MBA Admissions from 1991 to 1997 when she retired. Following retirement, Lee would enjoy spending her time with the “Coffee Ladies”; a group of friends from St. Joseph Catholic Church who would meet at Tosi’s Café in the morning to get coffee & breakfast. She loved spending time with her family and friends turning every event into a socializing experience. When Lee wasn’t with friends or family, she would be reading for her book club or doing what she did best, shopping for shoes and clothes!

Lee is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, David Cunningham; sons, Jonathan (Tanya) Cunningham of Pleasantville NY, Samuel (Heidi) Cunningham of Los Angeles, CA and David (Camille) Cunningham, Jr. of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Tess, Claire & Kendall Cunningham; and numerous nieces, nephews & cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Gloria Cameron & Gina Larson.
