Les's Obituary

Lester W. “Les” Moss, Sr., 86, passed away on June 23, 2024, at Royalton Manor in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 1, at 12 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Les was born on December 29, 1937, in Isle, MN, to William & Martha (Schulke) Moss. Following high school, Lester enlisted in the United States Army. After returning home, on March 26, 1966, Les married the love of his life, Wilma “Kathryn” Birkhead, in St. Joseph. The two spent a wonderful 52 years of marriage together before her passing in 2018. Working as a truck driver for a logistics company allowed him to travel across the country forming friendships with a wide array of people and co-workers. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle was important to Les; every day he would make time to go out for a walk or a hike. He also enjoyed tinkering around his house and working on his trucks and cars. However, what brought Les the greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Les is survived by his children, Alicia (John) Foster of Coloma and Lester W. “Bill” (Tracy) Moss of Port Charlotte, FL; grandchildren, Kati (fiancé, John), Krissi, William “Billy”, Jacob, and Michaela; siblings, Clara Christenson, Marven (Lillian) Moss and Emil (Sue) Moss. He was preceded in death by his parents, William & Martha; wife, Kathryn; infant son, Benjamin; and numerous brothers and sisters.
