A Time to Be Born - LaVonne Elaine Defoe/Shelby/Hutchin, also known as Bonnie. She was born on March 6, 1943, to Richard and Mary (Bills) DeFoe in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

A Time to Mourn - LaVonnne Hutchin, 81, of Benton Harbor, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital in Saint Joseph, MI with her family by her side.
She was preceded in death by her parents Richard C. DeFoe and Mary R. DeFoe; her former spouses Charles Shelby and Robert H. Hutchin; sister Jean DeFoe; brothers Richard A. DeFoe, James R. DeFoe. She leaves to cherish and rejoice in her memory her three loving children Glenn Shelby, Debra Shelby, and Shawn Shelby. Left to cherish her memories are her two sisters Antoinette M. DeFoe and Suellen DeFoe; her sister-in-laws Deborah DeFoe and Cassandra DeFoe; her eight-grandchildren Anthony Marsh, Monta Tutson, Shanesha Polk, Semmie McCoy, Alecia Shelby, Ashley Shelby, Glenn Shelby, Charles Shelby; a host of great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.

A Time to Share - LaVonne completed her GED from the Benton Harbor Area Schools. LaVonne experienced an effective occupation as a production worker with Maestro Record Changer Company in Stevensville, MI from 1965 through 1970. LaVonne enjoyed successful employment with Heathkit that began in 1970 as a production worker and ended with the termination of operations of Heathkit in Benton Harbor, MI in 1992. LaVonne relished a remarkable occupation as a sales associate for Rite Aid in Fairbanks, Alaska from 1992 through 1998. LaVonne reveled in a rewarding career as a Home Health Aide that began in 1998 and culminated with retirement in 2009. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, resolving puzzles, playing solitaire online, cooking, and socializing with friends. LaVonne was mechanically inclined. She was adept at fixing things and was often able to take unfamiliar items apart and reassemble them. Most of all, she loved and was very protective and loyal to her family and dear friends. LaVonne was a second mother to her younger siblings whom she cherished. LaVonne/Bonnie will be deeply missed by all who knew and adored her.

A celebration of life event for LaVonne will take place later.
