Larry's Obituary

Larry L. Riegel, 71, of St. Joseph, passed away, Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Corwell Health Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 11:30 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Tosi’s Restaurant, 4337 Ridge Rd., Stevensville. Memorial donations in Larry’s name may be made to Animal Control of Benton Harbor or the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan. Larry was born December 17, 1951 in Portland, Indiana to Robert L. & Ida M. (Landess) Riegel. He graduated from Lakeshore High School, Class of 1971 and attended the American Floral Art School in Chicago. Larry’s true passion was flowers. His first job at fourteen years old was at House of David Flowers in St. Joseph, which became H & J Florist & Greenhouses. Larry & his wife Barbara Lobello Riegel owned and operated Barnhart Flower Basket in Berrien Springs for a number of years before Larry gained employment with Whirlpool Corp. He was loved by all of his co-workers there, retiring after twenty-five years. He then returned to his true passion, designing floral arrangements, at H & J Florist, retiring in December 2022. Larry taught floral design at Lake Michigan College & Southwest Michigan College, and taught holiday design classes at many FTD shows. Larry was a very loving, gracious & selfless person who touched the hearts and lives of all he came in contact with. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Larry is survived by his daughter Julia (Jordan) Rudolph of St. Joseph; his former wife Barbara Morgan of St. Louis, MO; two grandsons-Micheal (Jessika) Rudolph & Nathaniel Rudolph; two great-grandchildren-Logan & Madelyn Rudolph; his siblings-Tamara (Kirk) Oisten of Allegan, Carl Riegel of Baroda, Rhonda (Sandra Valdez) Riegel of Albuquerque, NM; nephew Tony (Danielle) Riegel and great-nephew Liam Riegel. Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
