Kurt's Obituary

Kurt Lindhorst passed away at home peacefully on December 16, 2021, from complications of a stroke. His family was by his side. He was born to Kurt H. and Katherine Lindhorst in Detroit, Michigan on January 9, 1941.

Known by old friends as "Butch," he met his future wife, Sandy Bain, in Eau Claire in the summer of 1959. They were married on August 18, 1962, and went on to have two children, Steve and Lori. Kurt was a devoted family man who always made sure that his family was cared for physically, spiritually, and emotionally.

As a young adult, he took a job in a tool and die shop in Detroit, which led to a career of over 45 years as a skilled toolmaker. He worked many years at Weldun International in Bridgman when it was owned by Merlin Hanson. In 1993 he went to work at Dane Systems in Bridgman, retiring from there in 2005.

Kurt could fix or build just about anything and was always ready to help others when he was able. Before suffering his first stroke in 2011, in his spare time he enjoyed fishing with family and friends, old cars, taking care of his lawn and home, and he especially enjoyed building and flying remote controlled airplanes.

Kurt was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on December 19, 1970, and was a faithful member of the local congregation for 51 years. Even after suffering a debilitating stroke in 2011, he loyally attended meetings by phone and electronic tie-in provided through the Benton Harbor Kingdom Hall. He deeply loved his God, his family, and the worldwide brotherhood of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Kurt is survived by the love of his life, his devoted wife of 59 years, Sandra; his son Steven Lindhorst and daughter Lora (Don) Bush, both of Benton Harbor; three grandsons: Jonathan (Bethany) Bauer of Rhome, TX; David Wilhelm (Miranda) Bauer of Benton Harbor; and Michael Beilman of Watervliet; and one great-granddaughter, Hayden Bauer of Rhome, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kurt H. and Katherine Lindhorst.

Kurt had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor; his passing leaves a huge hole in the hearts of those who loved him. We're grateful that he left us with so many precious memories and some laughter to help us continue on until we meet again.

An online memorial service will be held on January 8, 2022 at 2pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 269-556-9450. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
