Kurt's Obituary

Kurt H. Maas, 70, of Broomfield, Colorado, formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away peacefully at Applewood Our House in Lakewood, Colorado on Saturday, November 19, 2022. Cremation took place in Westminster, Colorado. Graveside Services & Burial will take place 1:00 P.M. Saturday, July 15, 2023 at North Shore Memory Gardens in Hagar Township, Michigan.
Kurt was born on March 20, 1952, to Harvey and Jacqueline (Cubbage) Maas in Benton Harbor, Michigan. He married Phyllis Turano in Littleton, Colorado in 1978.
Kurt graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1970. He attended Michigan State University and received a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) degree from the University of Colorado – Denver.
Since living in Denver, Kurt had several employers, including Coors Brewing where he managed a quality control laboratory. Later he held other similar quality control positions with Cargill, NBTY, and other employers in the food and herbal supplement industry. Due to a number of factors, Kurt retired from regular employment in his late fifties.
Over the years Kurt enjoyed photography, cooking, and working on home improvement projects. He also became a skilled wood worker and enjoyed working in his shop on various projects.
He is survived by Phyllis, his daughter, Kelley E. Maas of Dublin, Ohio and her partner, Alex Mondragon, and his brother, Van A. Maas of Grand Rapids, Michigan, as well as several nieces and nephews.
