Kris's Obituary

Kristine Anne Kearney, of St. Joseph, passed away January 4, at her home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks and Menchinger Chapel. There are no services planned at this time. Kristine was born on October 4, 1954 in Champaign, IL to John and Marlene Boise Kibler. Kris attended Rantoul High School, graduating in 1972. She then attended Methodist Medical Center School of Nursing, graduating in 1975. She worked in nursing until the mid 80's when she received her Bachelor’s Degree in business from the U of I, Chicago.

On November 21, 1976, she married the love of her life, Hal Kearney in Champaign, IL. He survives.

Kris was hired as the Executive Director of the YWCA, which later was known at the WCA. During her 8 years as director, she helped hundreds of people with the various programs she implemented, including a women and children shelter and day care center. Following her retirement, she continued to volunteer for countless organizations, including being a co-founder for 100 Women Strong. When she wasn't serving her community, Kris was cooking, sewing and tending to her beautiful flower garden, in which she took great pride.

In addition to her husband, Hal, of 47 years, she is survived by her daughter, Emily (Kyle) Adkin of South Haven; mother, Marlene Passarello of Champaign, IL; sisters, Lisa (Mark) Chumbley of Rantoul, IL and Angi (Jim) Hooker of Minneapolis, MN; and step mother, Carol Kibler of St. Joseph, IL. She was preceded in death by her father, John Kibler.
