Kevin's Obituary

Kevin LeRoy Kelm, 68, of Stevensville, passed away, Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Majestic Care of South Bend.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 5:00 P.M Friday, March 31, 2023 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Chris Peddie officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations in Kevin’s name may be made to the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan. Kevin was born October 17, 1954 in Benton Harbor to LeRoy & Marion (Hookey) Kelm. He graduated from St. Joseph High School, Class of 1973. On March 23, 1974, he married the former MaryAnn Strasburg in St. Joseph. Kevin began his working career as a plumber’s assistant at Ideal Plumbing & Heating, helping his father LeRoy. He decided to change careers and went on to trade school to learn diesel mechanics, and began working at Zerbel GMC in Benton Harbor, where he spent many years, and later at Klett Construction. He also worked equipment maintenance at LECO Corp, but most recently served as transportation director for Berrien ISD and then Dowagiac Schools, retiring on March 1, 2019. Kevin was active and served as president of Discover Stevensville Days with MaryAnn for many years. They also enjoyed traveling across the USA together and both had a love of animals. In his free time, Kevin enjoyed hunting, fishing and wood working. He made many a creation which family and friends have in their homes. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with his family.

Kevin is survived by his wife MaryAnn, just celebrating forty-nine years of marriage; his children-Elizabeth (Fiance Jeff Gustafson) Kelm of Stevensville, Paul (Heather) Kelm of St. Joseph; four grandchildren-Abigail & Andrew Klinke, Sydney Briney & Remington Kelm; siblings-Tim (Ginger) Kelm of Stevensville & Kristine (Kevin Conklin) Streit of Benton Harbor; and several nieces & nephews. Kevin was preceded in death by his mother Marion on March 25, 2020 and his father LeRoy on January 18, 2021.
