Kathleen Joan Borrelli Stewart, 92, of St. Joseph, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 5, 2022, at 11AM, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 220 Church Street, St. Joseph, MI 49085. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, December 4, 2022, from 2PM until 4PM, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Joan was born on November 17, 1930 to Frederick & Edyth (Summerville) Wilt in Auburn, WV. She graduated from Buckhannon High School. On February 4, 1949, Joan married Augustine Borrelli in Parkersburg, WV, together they had 8 children. They were happily married until Augustine’s passing on February 11, 1967. Joan was a hard worker, busy raising her children and working different positions at Whirlpool Corp. In her spare time, she took golf lessons at Paw Paw Lake Golf Course from William “Bill” Stewart. In September of 1975, Bill and Joan married in St. Joseph, and were married until his passing in 1983.
Joan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she played the organ. She volunteered for the Readiness Center and was the head of volunteering at Watervliet Hospital. Joan’s most cherished time was spent with her family, especially supporting her grandchildren at their extracurricular activities.
Joan is survived by her children, Tina (Ernie) Wake of St. Joseph, Lisa Borrelli of St. Joseph, Anne Spletzer of St. Joseph, Kay (Pete) Frosolone of St. Joseph, Amy (Sam) Schaus of Winter Haven, FL, Emily (Jason) Self of Grand Blanc, MI, and Angela Borrelli of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Jenni (Jason) Swartz, Amanda Borrelli, Sarah Wake, Benjamin (Diana) Wake, Maria (Mike) Thibeault and Michael (Julianne) Frosolone; six great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister Pat DeMattia; daughter-in-law Susan Borrelli; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her husbands, Augustine “Tene” Borrelli and William Stewart; son Charles Borrelli; granddaughter Catherine Borrelli; brothers, Joseph Wilt and William Wilt; and son-in-law Mark Spletzer.
