Jeanette was born September 8, 1944 in Hinchman, Michigan to Ivan & Vera (Porter) French. She graduated from Berrien Springs High School, Class of 1962 and on October 9, she married her sweetheart Donald F. Lewis. After Don’s untimely passing in 1983, Jeanette went to work for Berrien Springs Public Schools as a teacher aide at Sylvester Elementary School, retiring in 2014 after thirty years. While working there, Jeanette painted all of the murals at the entrance of the school. Sylvester Elementary won School of the Year because of her efforts. Jeanette was an active member of the Chikaming SDA Church where she served as the Sabbath School Superintendent. Jeanette loved to study her bible and tend to her vegetable garden at home. She cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren, was very artistic in compiling photo albums of her family, and enjoyed being out doors to take in the beauty of nature. While her boys were participating in Berrien Springs sports, she attended all of their games and was the loudest fan in the stands. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jeanette is survived by her children-Melody Gillespie, Scott Lewis, Don (Lisha) Lewis, James (Maggie) Lewis, Shane (Shebrill) Lewis, Bob (Catherine) Lewis, Matthew (Christia) Lewis; eighteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; her brother Jerry French; and nieces & nephew-Susan, Nancy Polly & Logan. She was preceded in death by her husband Don in 1983, her son Michael Lewis in 2020, her brother Larry French, and sister-in-law Judy French, and her parents.
