John's Obituary
John Gary Best, II, 49, of Dowagiac, went to be with the lord unexpectedly on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph, Mi with his family present. John was born August 18, 1973 to John Gary Best & Donna Jo (Garber) Best in Battle Creek, Michigan.
John was a 1991 graduate of Dowagiac Union High School. While still in high school, John started working for Hannapel Home Center where he became close to the Hannapel Family.
John left Hannapel’s to become a truck driver hauling steel, he then went to drive for Roadway with his dad as a team, there he became a teamster. When our dad retired, John left to drive for Conway but retired due to health issues.
John had many friends he helped in many ways. Hannapel’s with mowing and other things, Glassman Auctions doing set up and tear down and would be second auctioneer which he enjoyed very much, he liked meeting new people and seeing friends.
John had many hobbies he enjoyed liked cutting wood, building things and spending time with his children was his greatest joy. Anyone who needed help, John was there, he was a listener, and a rock to everyone.
John’s biggest roll was being a great dad to his children. John was an amazing son, brother, uncle and great uncle. John was very close to his dad, his best friend. John was loved by all and will be truly missed by many.
John is survived by his father and step-mother John Gary Best & Francis Best; his former wife/friend Angela Best; three children Dustin Tincher, Makayla and Jonathon (Gavin) Best all of Dowagiac; siblings, Becky (Tom Yoba) Best of Battle Creek, Michigan, Tammy (Willie Mather) Best of Dowagiac, Bobbie (Tom) Grayam of Niles, Michigan and best friend/brother Everett Harrington of Dowagiac, Michigan; several nieces, nephews, 3 great-nieces, 1 great-nephew; aunts, uncles and several cousins. John was preceded in death by his mother Donna Jo Best, brother Quinton (Ken) Best and both maternal and paternal grandparents, Sam & Virginia Garber and George & Mildred Best.
Honoring John’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public services at this time. The family will be doing a Celebration of Life at a later date, details will be announced later. Arrangements were entrusted to Clark Chapel – Starks Family Funeral Homes, 405 Center Street, Dowagiac. Those wishing to share a memory of John online may do so at www.clarkch.com.
