John's Obituary
John Virgo, 90, of South Haven, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. John was born on April 16, 1933 in Benton Township, Michigan to Joseph and Ila (Merrill) Virgo.
John graduated from South Haven High School in 1951. He then started a long rewarding career with Canonie Construction company of South Haven and found a mentor in the owner, Tony Canonie Sr. He loved every aspect of his work and was especially proud of being the project manager for Canonie Construction on the Ludington Pumped storage project, where he met and married his present wife of 50 years, Margaret Ferris Virgo. After leaving Canonie Construction Company in 1987, John would go on to work for another great company, American Marine Construction of Benton Harbor, Michigan.
John had a special love and great memories of Durkee Hunting and Fishing club, where he was a member for many years. He also enjoyed golfing with his wonderful friends and playing Gin at the American Legion with his “Old” Buddies. John was known for being the quiet guy, who was respected and loved by his family, friends, and everyone who met him.
John is survived by his wife, Margaret (Mimi) Virgo, the children of his first wife, Lois (Foster) Virgo; Vicki (Gary) Myers Hilbert, Jeffrey Virgo, Todd (Kristy Sweet) Virgo, Valli (Jack) Virgo Caperton, Tylor (Cathy Francis) Virgo, and his Step-Children; Randy (Jill Kingsbury) Ferris, Robert (Lina) Ferris, Robin Seltenreich, Joy (Ron) Seiler, 15 beautiful grandchildren, 22 precious great-grandchildren, his half- sister, Judy (Don) Bierhalter Pagander, Numerous wonderful Nieces and Nephews, and his sweet dog, Buddy.
Preceding him in death were his parents Joseph Virgo and Ila (Virgo) Bierhalter, Step-Father, William Bierhalter, First Wife, Lois (Foster) Virgo, Baby Daughter, Stephanie Virgo, Step-Son, Gordon Ferris, Daughter-in-law, Sharon Ferris, Great Grand Daughter Precious, Baby Celo Alvina Condet, and Siblings, Mary Wilkinson, Joseph Virgo, Anthony Virgo, Connie Knight and Michael Virgo.
No services are planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to Caring Circle Hospice of Corewell Health, Al Van Humane Society or the charity of your choice.
