John's Obituary
John Stephen Thompson, 71, born in Detroit, MI, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023 at Royalton Manor in St. Joseph, MI. He was born April 1, 1951 to Angela (Belluscio) Thompson.
John will be remembered as a loving and devoted father and grandfather. No matter the day or distance, you could always count on John to be in the cheering section at all his children’s activities. He still holds the record for being the only parent to ever have a technical foul called on him in the stands for cheering too loudly! As his grandchildren grew, he always loved to hear about their activities and looked forward to reports on each sport or activity on a weekly basis. As an avid UofM fan, he loved the competition with the Spartans in the family. Some of his fondest memories were of watching his beloved Wolverines on Saturday afternoons in the fall.
John put all his efforts into supporting others in his life. Whether it was in his personal or work life, he took care of everyone around him. From a young age, his personality was larger than life. Through his early businesses and into his years in automotive sales, he always seemed to know someone in every single room he entered and wasted no time in getting to know new people.
His faith in God was a driving force in his life. It motivated him to be engaged in numerous efforts like Teen Challenge, Peacemakers International, various church groups and The Chosen Ranch in Lincoln, MI which provides support to neglected children. Given his past struggles with addiction, he took seriously all attempts to offer support to others walking with the same struggles. He never stopped looking for opportunities to share the love of Jesus with others.
John will be missed by his children, Elizabeth (Michael) DeShone, and Christopher (Cheryl) Thompson; his grandchildren, Ethan, Isabella, Joseph, Gabriella, and Emma; and many extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother.
The family will be having a celebration of life to be announced at a later date. If anyone wishes to honor John’s life, in lieu of flowers the family requests that donations to The Chosen Ranch be considered. https://www.chosenranch.org/
Psalms 116 15-19: Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. O Lord, I am your servant; I am your servant, the son of your maidservant. You have loosed my bonds. I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the Lord. I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people, in the courts of the house of the Lord, in your midst, O Jerusalem. Praise the Lord!
