John's Obituary
John M. Calkins 75, of Bangor passed away at home on Saturday May 6, 2023. Born on May 31, 1947 in South Haven Michigan to George and Evelyn Calkins. United in marriage to the late Caroline Martin on May 9, 1970.
John is survived by his daughters; Nancy Calkins Davis (Thomas) Davis, Ann (George) Wink and Bobbi Calkins, grandchildren; Elizabeth Davis, Ashley Hamons, George “JJ” Wink, Jason Wink, Jeremy Wink, Kelsey Marie Gillies, Richard Gillies, Dakota Conant, Dylan Conant, Alaina Conant, Carson Conant and Grace Conant. Also survived by 9 great grandchildren and siblings Cecile (Carl) Lanier and Leon Charles (Frances) Calkins.
Preceded in death by; parents, George and Evelyn Calkins, wife of 47 years Caroline Calkins and brother Glenn Donald Calkins.
John was a graduate of South Haven High School. After school he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served until 1968. He then joined the Army Reserves until 1972. John worked for Michigan Laborers Local 355 and then worked for Mid America Carpenters. John was also a EMT and worked for the Geneva Twp. Fire Dept. from 1984-1990. He was a wonderful husband, father and friend. He met and married the love of his life Carol on a blind date and together they raised three daughters. The family bought a farm in 1980 and settled in Grand Junction. The farm was sold and through their travels together John and Carol discovered and settled in Galena Missouri. After Carols passing in 2017 John moved back to Bangor Michigan. He was a much-loved father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be deeply missed.
Cremation has taken place per John’s wishes. He will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery, beside his wife Carol with Military honors at a later date.
