JoAnne's Obituary
JoAnne K. Gonzalez, age 86, died on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at her home in Las Vegas, NV, where she had relocated from St. Joseph to live with her beloved sister, Judith Moran. JoAnne was born on December 19, 1936 and was the daughter of Joseph and Catherine Kasper of St. Joseph, Michigan. She married Dr. Rafael E. Gonzalez June 8, 1957 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
JoAnne loved playing bridge, tennis, skiing, and traveling. She was proud of the fact that she attended all major tennis Opens, including the Australian, French, and Wimbledon. JoAnne also enjoyed her career as an RN in surgery at Lakeland for over 20 years. Her mind was still clear until the end and she used this gift to help others. JoAnne was admired as being unique, generous, adventurous, and courageous – always growing in her capacity to love.
JoAnne is survived by her loving children, Virginia Gonzalez McGannon of FL, Jose Gonzalez of NC, and Julie Austin of CO; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Judy; former spouse, Rafael; and two dear sons, Ralph Gonzalez and Pete Gonzalez.
A visitation with JoAnne’s family will take place on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at The Starks and Menchinger Chapel (2650 Niles Road) from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. A memorial mass for JoAnne will take place on Monday, September 18, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church (220 Church St. St. Joseph, MI) at 11:00 am followed by a gathering in Rose Hall. For a lasting memory, donations in JoAnne’s name can be made out to either Birthright of St. Joseph or Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ
