Joann Shane, 89, of Benton Harbor, MI passed away Friday, November 11, 2022 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland in St. Joseph.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 19, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 157 Lucinda Ln., Watervliet, MI 49098 with Fr. Patrick Craig officiating. Burial will follow at Watervliet Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Watervliet or Centrica Care in Kalamazoo. Joann was born October 24, 1933 in Benton Harbor, MI to Paul & Helen (Lipnican) Valacak. She graduated from St. Johns High School in Benton Harbor. She then married Philips Shane in 1976. Joann worked for Heath Zenith for many years as a controller inspector. In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing, golfing, boutiqueing, and keeping a clean house.
Joann is survived by her son Larry (Tina) Shane; daughter Laura (Peter) Sarelis; grandchildren Michael Shane, Elisabeth “Anika” Shane, Hannah Shane, Kylee Shane, Naomi Sarelis and Mariah Sarelis; brother Thomas (Irene) Valacak; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Joann was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings Paul Valacak, Mary Johnson, Frank Valacak, Cy Valacak, Vince Valacak, Helen Valacak, Marge Murach, Agatha Filush and Rosemary VanArkel.
